Chapter 11

Kenda woke not really remembering much of the night before. She looked around. The sun was shining in. Too bright, she thought. She looked around. It had to be late in the day. The bedroom had crisp white walls and green blankets. Bamboo shelves went from wall to wall on the left, and a dresser and desk were against the right wall.

Everything that had happened last night came rushing back. Shit. Kenda scrambled out of bed and raced for the bedroom door, down a hallway, and froze as she entered the kitchen. Greyson stood at the counter chopping fruit, shirtless, with his hair hanging in his face just a little. She licked her lips, staring at his muscular chest. His bare, muscular chest. Kenda’s eyes traced over every inch of muscles, stopping at the tattoo on his ribs before moving their way down to his abs.

“Morning.”

Her eyes snapped to his face. He was staring at her, grinning. “Morning.”

“Did you sleep?”

“What time is it?” she asked, remembering why she’d jumped out of bed. “Is she awake?”

“Paige texted an hour ago. Yeah, she’s awake.”

“You should have woken me!”

“Your mom told me not to.” He shrugged.

“My…You talked to my mom?”

“She called your phone. I answered.” A flush touched his cheeks. “I’m sorry, I hope I didn’t—”

“It’s fine.” Kenda exhaled slowly. “Did anyone else call?”

“No.”

“Okay.” She closed her eyes and collected her thoughts.

“Go hop in the shower. I set out fresh towels, a razor, some of the body wash Kyle’s sister uses when she visits, and some moisturizer. I didn’t miss anything, did I?”

Kenda stared at him in shock. “No.”

As she turned, her brow furrowed. Why did Kyle’s sister visit him? As she headed down the hallway to the bathroom, she realized why. A door stood open, and in the room she could see a man sleeping. They live together. She felt relief wash over her. Kenda wasn’t willing to admit it, though, not even to herself.

The shower did her good. By the time she got out, Kenda almost felt human again. Almost. She towelled off and slipped back into the clothes she’d been wearing before making her way back to the kitchen.

Kyle was up. “Hey.” He gave her a smile as he popped a piece of fruit into his mouth. “He told me about your sister. I hope she’s okay.”

“Thanks.” Kenda’s heart sank into her stomach as anger nipped at her heart. Why would he go around telling people that?

“I’ll be right back.” Greyson moved away from the counter and headed toward her. He stopped right beside her and placed a kiss on the top of her head. “Eat. I’m going to get dressed and then we can go see your sister.”

“You don’t have to come.”

“No, I do.”

Again, there was that answer. What the fuck did he mean by it? Kenda made her way over to the counter where a stack of pancakes and fruit lay out.

“Has he told you about…?” Kyle’s voice was low.

She turned to look at him. “What?”

Kyle nodded. “I wasn’t sure if he had or not…” Kyle trailed off for a couple of seconds.
